What you need

iPhone or iPadiOS or iPadOS 15.1 or newer. Download Split Shot from the App Store.
AndroidComing soon.
Your footageTwo videos of the same course of fire, already on the phone. The start signal and the shots must be audible in each recording.
ConnectionNone. The app has no internet access and works in a bay with no signal.

Common questions

What kind of clips work best?

Hold the phone reasonably steady, keep the shooter in frame for the whole run, and make sure the timer's beep is on the recording. The two runs do not have to be filmed from the same spot or at the same distance — the app re-frames each one around the shooter — but they do need to be the same course of fire for the comparison to mean anything.

Does it need a shot timer?

It needs a start signal it can hear. Any timer's beep on the audio track will do; Split Shot finds it and anchors both runs to it. It does not connect to a timer, and it does not replace one.

It found a shot that was not there — or missed one.

That happens, especially with a neighbouring bay firing or heavy echo. Open the run's shot table and mark the false positive: it then leaves the counts, the overlay, the synchronisation and the export. If a real shot was missed, adjust and re-analyse, and please send us the clip's circumstances so the detection can improve.

Why is the analysis slow the first time?

Everything runs on the phone: decoding both clips, classifying the audio, detecting and tracking the shooter, then rendering a synchronised preview. There is no server doing it for you, which is the point. Later edits reuse the analysis instead of redoing it.

Where do my exports go?

On iPhone and iPad, an export is saved to Photos. Share sends the most recent export into the system share sheet.

Why does it not back anything up?

Because it has no internet access at all. That is a deliberate design choice, not a missing feature — see the Privacy Policy. Export anything you want to keep, and it lands in your gallery where your usual backup can pick it up.

Your data, and removing it

  • In the app: deleting a project removes its clips and analysis. Uninstalling removes everything the app holds. Videos you exported stay in Photos until you delete them yourself.
  • On the Android notification list: email us and we will delete your address. No account, no confirmation loop, no dark pattern.

We hold nothing else about you. The full picture is in the Privacy Policy.

Reporting a problem

The more of this you can include, the faster it gets fixed:

  1. Your phone or tablet model and operating-system version.
  2. The Split Shot version shown on its App Store listing.
  3. What you did, what you expected, and what happened instead.
  4. Whether it happens every time or only with particular clips.

Please do not attach range footage unless we ask — and if you do, remember it may show other people. A description is usually enough to start.

A note on safety

Split Shot is for reviewing a run after it is over. Only use it when the range is safe and all firearms are cleared and secured, and always follow the instructions of whoever is running the range.
